Getting on with it
So after 'releasing' the Ludum Dare version of the game, I've slowed down the tempo a bit, and been working on bits and pieces. Most major changes relate to the game system on the back-end to control things more easily. I still need to create some connections, but the UI should be almost completely finished at this point.
Since I was short on time I completely forgot about making the character dialogues more accessible, these are now finally colour coded, so first time players won't have to second guess who's actually talking. Additionally the plain, flat backgrounds have been swapped with an animated chequerboard for more depth and an overall better visual fit. Also added a new animated wait icon and a custom scene transition that will happen between 'major' events or location changes in the future. Think of this latter more as something that would happen like from a park to a mall, but not while you visit shops within the mall.
